Margaret L. Campbell, PhD, RN, FAAN

Margaret L. Campbell, PhD, RN, FAAN, is a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner at Detroit Receiving Hospital and Assistant Professor - Research at Wayne State University College of Nursing. Her clinical practice focuses on care of the acute and critically ill patient. Dr. Campbell is widely published and has served in many leadership positions nationally, including the Institute of Medicine Committee on Care at the End of Life, and the Last Acts Palliative Care Task Force. She is currently the President of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association, and is the author of Nurse to Nurse: Palliative Care, a 2008 book written for hospital staff nurses.

 

John Finn, MD

John Finn, MD, serves as the Medical Director of Palliative Care Services at Providence- St. John Health System. Formerly he developed the Supportive Oncology Program at Barbara Ann Karmanos Comprehensive Cancer Center with the academic rank of Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr. Finn is former Executive Medical Director of Hospice of Michigan and Chief Medical Director of the Maggie Allesee Center for Quality of Life. He is a Founding Member, Distinguished Fellow and past President of the American Academy of Hospice Physicians.

 

Rabbi E.B. (Bunny) Freedman

Rabbi E.B. (Bunny) Freedman is a spiritual caregiver and Founding Director of Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network. Former Director of Jewish Services at Hospice of Michigan, he has worked with thousands of families as they faced the emotional pain of terminal illness. Rabbi Freedman works with the Jewish community and hospices around the country in developing hospice and palliative care programs that meet the spiritual care needs of Jewish patients.

 

Elana Goell-Varkovitzky, PhD

Elana Goell-Varkovitzky, PhD has been a Clinical Psychologist in private practice for 24 years. Dr. Goell-Varkovitzky received her B.A. and M.A degrees from Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and her PhD from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her specialties include the neurobiological treatment of trauma and disassociation (PTSD) and the use of EMDR. Dr. Goell-Varkovitzky also specializes in grief and mourning and end of life care. She assisted in the development of The Center to Advance Palliative Care Excellence (CAPEWAYNE) at Wayne State University

 

Renee Gruskin

Renee Gruskin is a hospice family member, whose husband, Dr. Alan Gruskin, died of pancreatic cancer in 2003. She will speak about her quest for pain management for him.
